ISDN transmits data five or more times faster than analog modems. This means graphics, audio, and video come through much faster, and download time is substantially decreased. If you are dialing into a corporate LAN, ISDN allows applications to run at speeds much closer to the speed of the LAN in the office. Clear Connections ISDN transmits data digitally and, as a result, is less susceptible to static and noise than analog transmissions. Voice conversations over ISDN are crystal clear and have the quality of an audio CD. Data connections are virtually error-free. While analog modem connections must dedicate some bandwidth to error correction and retransmission which reduces the actual throughput, an ISDN line can dedicate all its bandwidth to data transmission. Rapid Call Setup In addition to raw speed, ISDN calls can be set up much faster than analog phone calls. While an analog modem can take up to a minute to set up a connection, you can be transmitting data in about two seconds with ISDN. Because ISDN is fully digital, the lengthy handshaking process of analog modems (those piercing, screeching noises) is not required. Services We offer traditional ISDN service in West Point. In other areas we offer DOV (Data Over Voice) ISDN which is fast ISDN speed with reduced residential usage charges from the telephone company. With normal ISDN the telephone company usually charges per minute for date calls and that can easily add up to more than the monthly cost for both the ISDN line and the monthly cost to the Internet provider. But with DOV you can get fast ISDN speed for a flat rate at reduced usage charges on a residential line from your telephone company. Normally local voice calls are free for residential service. With DOV ISDN .56kbps worth of data on each B channel can be transferred both ways - download and upload! So you get a total bandwidth of 112kbps (normal ISDN over data is 128kp/s). This is still a digital call not analog like regular modems.
